May01 Summer cocktail 2013

Summer is upon us (or already here for those of us lucky enough to live in warm places!), which means that porch-sitting, backyard-barbecuing, and cocktail-drinking are top priority.

The lovelies over at Valley & Co sent us this yummy recipe for a Blood Orange + Mint Sunset. Enjoy!

What you’ll need:

blood oranges  || 1 oz. blood orange liqueur || .5 oz. gin ||  seltzer water || a handful of mint leaves || ice || fine grained sugar

Dampen the rim of a low ball glass and dip in sugar. Muddle a few mint leaves in the bottom the low ball. Add ice, blood orange liqueur and gin. Stir and top with seltzer water. Serve with orange wedges and mint leaves as garnish. Cheers!

Editor’s note: if you want a mocktail version, substitute the liqueur with blood orange juice and omit the gin.

Mar21 Insta Wall 2013

I have a few awkwardly small wall spaces in my house that I never quite know what to do with. I feel the urge to cover every wall while still having clean space. It’s kind of an ongoing dilema.

I recently saw this idea for covering a small wall and I really love it. Let’s not worry for now about the fact that a lot of my Instagram photos (of what I ate for lunch) aren’t going to be great art pieces. Instead, let’s focus on the fact that some corner of the internet houses photos of some really amazing memories. Wouldn’t it be so fun to have a way to display them like this?

You could do this with polaroids or old postcards you gather up at estate sales and vintage shops. Really, it’s a pretty versatile idea.

I did some research on getting my Insta photos printed, and it’s a lot easier and cheaper than I imagined it might be. Printstagram look like my favorite option. Leave other suggestions in the comments if you have experience ordering from different places!

I’m off to go take cooler Instagram pictures. Wish me luck.

Feb07 Valentine’s Sussies 2013

Oh my dear, Valentine’s Day is in 7 days! I’m a super fan of the holiday. Well, really, I’m a fan of any reason to throw a little sparkle on something and celebrate. One of my favorite things about holidays is the opportunity to hand make a little something to give away to the people I love and appreciate. One of my dearest friends calls these little somethings “sussies.” Apparently it’s a southern thing, and I think its adorable. So we’re going with it!

Here’s a roundup of some great DIY projects for making sussies for your friends, family, co-workers, or maybe even random neighbors and the mail man. It’s a perfect excuse to spread a little love!
